Churches offer Lent course online

The parishes of Westerfield, Tuddenham and Witnesham, near Ipswich, are trying out a new way of doing Lent this year.  As well as offering the usual weekly meetings they have devised a Home Lent Course for people who can't get along or make that day in the week.

Home Lent Course participants will receive daily email messages, in a similar form to daily Bible reading notes, with a Bible passage, some commentary, a few questions and a prayer.  While the content may only take a few minutes to read through, the questions are there to think about for the rest of the day.

In order to promote discussion and sharing there is an accompanying online secure forum where participants can share thoughts, idea and questions, and respond to each other.
Here's a sample of the course
Just another day wandering in Galilee:

Jesus and his disciples went to the villages near the town of Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, he asked them, "What do people say about me?"  The disciples answered, "Some say you are John the Baptist or maybe Elijah. Others say you are one of the prophets."  Then Jesus asked them, "But who do you say I am?" "You are the Messiah!" Peter replied.

There must have been no end of times when Jesus and his disciples went walking together.  They covered enormous distances.

For one disciple things were beginning to gel.  And Jesus may have known, and chose to ask his question for that reason.

The answer didn’t come directly from Peter's brain; it came first from his spirit.  Try to understand Jesus just from what you have learnt and you will not get far.  Allow God’s Holy Spirit to touch your spirit and reveal to you the true nature of Jesus Christ.

We do not get to hear what the other disciples had to say to Jesus’ second question, and that may be just as well, since Peter got it spot on.

What do you tell people when they ask you about Jesus?

Father God, I need your Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus to me, for all that I may learn about him in the Bible is meaningless until you breathe understanding into my spirit.  Amen.
 How to join in
As the course is online, the churches are happy for anyone from any church to join. If you're interested, then please send an email to paul@wtandw.org.uk  with your name and church and they will add you in.
