Local Christian Worker leads chess holiday
Kevin Moore, who is well known in chess circles, regularly leads clubs and chess based holidays for young people. This year the holiday is for 11-16 year olds, and is a chess/bible residential “Checkmate”, based on a converted church (now a Diocesan Christian Centre) overlooking a country park in Bedfordshire.
The holiday will involve chess play, answering questions and befriending young people. There will also be tournaments, puzzle solving, competitions and one to one coaching. There will also be Bible teaching using chess terms and examples, which will be a unique part of the holiday.
Kevin says “I have designed and run a chess residential holiday for 3 years now in a beautiful Diocesan centre in rural Bedfordshire aimed at young people 11-16 years old. It is about developing chess play, coaching and developing chess skills and having a fun with various games and entertainment. The team of helpers are all Christians from across the country with a heart for young people.”
“On the Christian side, there is a short informal bible study each morning that makes some links with chess and the bible. It is educational and the devotions are a little like you would have in public schools. In addition to the chess tournament and coaching sessions, there would be corporate games, entertainment, an arty session, time to explore the local country park, play indoor cricket and other games and visit the local shop for some confectionary.”
The charge for the holiday is £100 all in, with meals and accommodation from Monday to Friday, October 24-28th.
There are places for 10-12 young people, with a team of 8-10 adults, and at the moment some places are still available.
