We are the lighthouse to the world!

By Ray Eyre

Thinking about the role of the church in today’s society, I have come to the conclusion that it is the same as it has always been – to bring light into the world and to warn the world of the danger it is in.

Jesus says this in Matthew 5:15 “You are the light of the world – like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father”.

I see all this as being like a lighthouse, to warn of the dangers and to offer help to avoid the rocks hidden below the water – rocks that destroy life. But we must be seen and not hidden.

I have found that Jesus is the one to help change our lives for the better. He died on the cross so that we can find a new life in him, by coming and confessing our sins to him and asking him to save us from the rocks.

This has been a life changing experience for me. Like many others I was lost in the world without God, and with no hope until I came to Christ.

We as the church need to stand together and reflect the light of Christ, by living the Christian life in a dark place and revealing God through our good deeds for the benefit of others.

Let us make sure we work together to bring glory, honour and praise to our heavenly father. That is what matters, and that souls will be saved!
